What is multiple revision surgery?

Multiple revision refers to cases needing further correction after already undergoing rhinoplasty two or more times. Repeated surgery can leave cartilage and tissue depleted, with adhesions, making it more challenging than a first surgery or a single revision.

At this stage, above all, it's important to accurately assess the remaining tissue and support structure. VVLY checks the condition using CT and endoscopy, and prioritizes supplementing any lack of structural support with the patient's own tissue, such as autologous costal cartilage.

Rather than being overly ambitious, VVLY plans multiple revision carefully within what the current tissue can reasonably bear. Depending on your condition, treatment may be staged over time, and results may vary by individual.

Frequently Asked Questions About multiple revision

Q.I've already had surgery several times — is it still possible?+

It depends on your tissue condition. VVLY first evaluates the remaining cartilage, tissue, and support structure, then decides whether it's possible and how to proceed — an overly aggressive revision is not recommended.

Q.What if there isn't enough cartilage?+

If ear or septal cartilage is insufficient, using autologous costal cartilage to supplement structural support is considered.

Q.How many times can revision surgery be repeated?+

The condition of the tissue and blood supply matters more than the number of prior surgeries itself. The decision is made carefully, within what your condition allows.

Q.Can everything be corrected in one surgery?+

If the burden on the tissue is significant, treatment may be staged over separate procedures instead.

Q.Does recovery take longer?+

Because this is a repeat revision, swelling and recovery can progress more slowly than after a first surgery, and this varies by individual.
